Land Stewardship Consulting

Work With Me

I work with homeowners, families, and institutions who want to practice land stewardship thoughtfully with an eye toward the next generation. My garden consultation services are rooted in historic landscape design, ecological systems, and the understanding that gardens and orchards unfold over years, not seasons.

How We Begin

All work begins with a garden consultation — a focused, paid consultation where we discuss your property, its history, your goals, and the realities of the site. This process is essential for effective current stewardship and future planning of both a specific garden site and whole properties. In winter and early spring, these conversations take place via Zoom or in person. Once the land is visible, I prefer to work on site. This seasonal rhythm allows thoughtful planning to happen before the growing season begins and active work to be ready in season.

Ways of Working Together

Following our initial conversation, work typically takes one or more of the following forms:

- Site-based consultations and garden walks

- Written plans and long-range planting guidance tailored to historic landscape design

- Design and planning support for gardens, orchards, and landscapes, emphasizing long-term stewardship

- Ongoing stewardship and seasonal advising to ensure the health of your landscape

Together, we decide what level of engagement best serves both your land and your goals.

Five -year Stewardship Arc

Thinking in Years, Not Seasons

My work in garden consultation is guided by a longer view. New plantings take time to establish, and landscapes, especially those rooted in historic design, evolve over years. Decisions made early—placement, structure, plant selection—shape how a garden matures, functions, and endures, all while emphasizing the importance of stewardship for your family's future generations.

Next Steps

If you’re considering working together, the first step is to schedule a garden consultation. From there, we can determine the  scope of your project and the next steps.

I currently work with clients throughout the Upper Valley, Northern New England, and Central Virginia.
